OCBC Cycle Malaysia 2013

In
the second year of the OCBC Cycle Malaysia 2013, it was held on 18th
till 20th January 2013. The venue of the event took place at Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC). The event was
catered to families, cycling enthusiasts, recreational cyclists and experienced
cyclists of all ages
There
were six categories for the event, including Tricycle Ride (100m) for younger
children, Junior Challenge (30 minutes), Kids’ Ride (5.5km), Foldies Community
Ride (24km), Community Ride (24km), The Challenge (48km), and The Corporate
Charity Challenge (48km).
The
cycling event on was a closed roads, it was against the backdrop of the
Petronas Twin Towers. With Suria KLCC as its starting point, the 12.1km route
offered cyclists a combination of challenge. There were thousands of locals,
visitors, and tourists over the three days.
The
event started at 8.30am, with both Minister of Youth and Sports Dato’ Sri Ahmad
Shabery Cheek and the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Haji Ahmad Phesal Talib
flagged off The Community Ride (24km).
The
Director & CEO Mr. Jeffrey Chew directed bank’s liable in The Challenge category.
Thus, the OCBC Bank also appeared as in 2nd runner-up behind both SP Setia
teams in The Corporate Charity Challenge. Along the Corporate Charity
Challenge, with voluntary donations the Simply Giving website, raised RM100,000
for the National Cancer Society Malaysia, Budimas Charitable Foundation, and
National Autism Society of Malaysia.
The
event was supported by KLCC Properties, Doubletree by Hilton, Shimano, F2P,
BaikBike.com, Polygon, 100Plus, Volkswagen, Thule, Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur and
Cycling Malaysia Magazine, with The Star as its media partner.
